KOHAEL PROJECT

Kohael is a koha-based, mobile community initiative rooted in Aotearoa. Our mission is to bring healing, creativity, and connection to communities across New Zealand through accessible offerings.

At its core is the principle of koha — the Māori word for “gift exchange.” This is not a business. It is a space for service, for co-creation, and for heartfelt offering.

The name Kohael is born from “Koha” and “Heal.”
It reflects the project’s essence: healing through giving, sharing, and connection.

Our Vision: The Kohael Truck

We're planning to transform a horse truck into a mobile healing hub, musical stage and wood workshop, a space for:

  • Community gatherings and events

  • Co creation, creative workshops and artistic expression

  • Bodywork. massages and wellness sessions

  • Sound journeys and meditations

This mobile space allows us to reach diverse communities, offering services on a donation basis, ensuring inclusivity regardless of financial means.

It is a platform for shared humanity, holding space for presence, care, and participation.

Kohael wishes to hold space for us to share from our heart,
and cultivate gratitude and abundance.

In this video, I invite you to meet me, my energy and how I fit in my own project, as an example of how I hope others will.

How Kohael Works

The vision unfolds through six key commitments:

  1. Create the mobile space : a converted truck that can host and travel

  2. Share offerings on a koha basis : including music, massage, carpentry, and facilitation

  3. Build connection through social media : documenting the journey, sharing reflections and events

  4. Invite co-creation : with others who wish to offer or collaborate

  5. Be transparent with resources : using funds to nourish people and land

  6. Activate a network : that values presence over product, care over commerce

A Koha-Based Model

Kohael operates entirely on a donation/exchange basis.
That means no one is excluded due to money, and everyone has the opportunity to give what they can, whether that’s a coin, a skill, a smile, or a story.

I dedicate all my time and energy to this project, without institutional or religious backing. Your support helps cover the material and costs, so the offerings can remain open and accessible.

What the Kohael Truck Makes Possible

Once equipped and on the road, the truck can serve as:

  • A pop-up healing venue at festivals, communities, and rural places

  • A stage for live or recorded music and open mic events

  • A container for crafting, workshops, talking circles, creative labs

  • A place for bodywork and alternative therapies

  • A platform for building projects around eco-living, food growing, and alternative education

It’s a space of potential, shaped not only by me, but by those who join in.

Why It Matters
